It Offers Protection From Cancer According to a study published in the journal Best Practice & Research Clinical Obstetrics & Gynaecology, taking birth control pills upward of 15 years can cut the risk of developing ovarian cancer by 50 percent and that of endometrial cancer by as high as 70 percent. The research states that ovarian cancer protection comes from stopping ovulation, and birth control pills prevent that. It also prevents uterine cancer in the same way as the pill thins out the uterine lining which causes less tissue buildup and ultimately results in a lower risk of developing the disease. It is however important to note that oral contraceptives may increase the risk of developing breast and cervical cancers because it increases the levels of the oestrogen hormone.
